Faith-Fueled Generosity

Generous Giving Conference

In this 50-minute session from the Generous Giving Conference, Jimmy Seibert shares his personal journey of faith and generosity, challenging followers of Christ to have faith in His provision as they live open-handedly with the resources God has given them. Jimmy is founder and Senior Pastor of Antioch Community Church in Waco, TX and President of Antioch Ministries International, a church planting and missions organization. He is author of Passion and Purpose.

Jimmy ended his message with a strong reminder of the gospel: Your generosity will never justify you before God. Only His grace through faith in Christ justifies us.

"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God."
(Ephesians 2:8, ESV)

Before you move to the questions below, take a moment and let that reality sink in. If you've been trying to earn the Lord's favor through your giving, accept His gift of grace. If you feel the weight of conviction because your life isn't marked by the faith-fueled generosity of Jimmy's story, accept God's gift of grace.

Jimmy shared three key Scripture passages that tremendously shaped his generosity early in life:

Matthew 5:42 (ESV)

42Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.

Lay Up Treasures in Heaven

As they had children, Jimmy and his wife desired to pass on their values of faith-fueled generosity. They came up with three basic truths to live by:
  1. Live Simply
  2. Work Diligently
  3. Give Generously

What does it mean for you, personally, to live simply? How does it impact your financial decisions?

Giving is traditionally something done in private. How can you model generous giving while maintaining humility and not seeking the praise of others?

"The Kingdom of God is not simply a set of principles, it's following a person named Jesus and living as much like Him as we can. And when we don't, repenting abundantly."

The generous life is fundamentally a life devoted to following Christ. As you follow Christ, putting your faith in Him, you begin to trade the passions and pursuits valued by this world for His passions, His pursuits, His mission. Your resources and possessions are no longer yours to hoard, but are tools to steward for God's Kingdom.
