Leading Worship with Joy

2013 Austin Stone Worship Conference

In this 12-minute session from the Austin Stone Worship Conference, Donna Stuart encourages worship leaders to lead out of a joy rooted in a love for God and a love for others. Donna is a songwriter and worship leader. She ministers with her husband, Ben, at Breakaway, a ministry to students at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX.

Donna proposed that we lack joy in our worship leading when we focus too much on ourselves. How have you experienced a tendency to focus on yourself and what others think of you?

John 15:9-11 (ESV)

9As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love.10If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.11These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.

As you lead worship, remember the opportunity you have to embody the fulness of joy found in Christ. Focus on God and what He's done rather than on yourself and what others think of you, letting the joy you experience point others to God's love for them.
