Is the Doctrine of Inerrancy Defensible?

2010 Ligonier Conference

Dr. Horton has taught apologetics and theology at Westminster Seminary California since 1998, and in doing so he has, developed expertise in the doctrine of biblical inerrancy. In this 48-minute session from the Ligonier Conference, Michael lays the foundation that Christian belief in Scripture is far more plausible than worldly philosophies, and gives specific apologetic answers to the rationalist anti-biblicists.

Six Crucial Points for Defending Inerrancy
  1. The rejection of inerrancy is always based on a false view of the world.
  2. The redemptive historical unfolding of biblical revelation reveals a single voice.
  3. "Contradictions and errors" are a problem from our own misunderstanding or lack of information.
  4. God's sovereignty is not diminished by human freedom.
  5. Our claim is that in all the Bible's real affirmations there is no error.
  6. We believe the original autographs are inerrant, and no point of major doctrine has been overturned by textual criticism.

We will never know everything there is to know about the Bible because Scripture's subject is an infinite being. That does not mean, however, that we shouldn't study and prepare to know everything that we can so that, when God presents us the opportunity, we might give a wonderful, reasoned defense for the hope that we have in the gospel.
