How Your Church Can Help the Vulnerable

Compasio's work helps to empower and protect the voiceless by responding on behalf of children at-risk along the border of Thailand and Burma. Ashlee Heiligman, US Director of Development for Compasio, talks about Compasio and shares how the local church can help implement an organization's mission to love, protect and empower those who are vulnerable.

Ashlee's recommendations on what the local church needs to look for in collaborating with an organization:
  1. Make sure you do your investigation and research the organization you are partnering with.
  2. Make sure the organization that you are supporting is not creating orphans.
  3. Make sure that the organization is not taking a child out of their family for the sake of provision.

Ashlee first suggestion is about researching an organization. She said it is vital because as a church, we need to be good stewards of the gifts God has given us. Ashlee said, "You have to make sure that they're talking about the issues and taking action." How are you making sure that the organizations that you support and work with take action?

List the organizations that you are interested about partnering with. What specifically did you like about them? Are they taking action and not just talking about issues? What questions do you have about what they do? Which one is on the top of your list? How could your church move forward in supporting them?

God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and  ever! Amen.
