Opening Doors for the Gospel

There is no pleasure like leading someone to meet Jesus

Many Christians would like to share their faith more but don't feel confident in their ability to do so. Watch this humorous illustration of an alternative to speaking to people in the real world.

We can get pretty creative when we are trying to avoid an uncomfortable conversation, but a little training can help us find some of the courage we need to do our part in the Great Commission.

Evangelist Luis Palau has preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ for more than 50 years to more than one billion people worldwide. Because of his experience, he is full of practical ideas for sharing the gospel. Prepare to take notes as he shares one great strategy and story after another.

Jesus has called us to the task of evangelism with several different analogies. We are:
  • Fishers of Men (Matthew 4:18–22)
  • Ambassadors (2 Corinthians 5:17–21)
  • Witnesses (Acts 1:8)

After reading the passages above, which of these titles resonates with you and why?

Did any of Luis's ideas seem especially viable for you? Which of them can you adapt to your life now? Do you have someone in mind that could be a good target for spiritual conversations?

He also mentioned the report that said 80% of Americans would go to evangelistic events if invited. What events at your church have an evangelistic element? Who will you invite the next time one of these occurs?

The best technique for evangelism is to simply love people

No matter what strategies you use to begin spiritual conversations, the real secret is to love the people with whom you wish to share. Luis now tells how he learned this lesson and how his church works to love people so that they may find space to tell them about Jesus.

Matthew 5:14-16 (ESV)

14“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.15Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.16In the same way, let your light shine before others, so thatthey may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

You are a fisherman, a witness and an ambassador. Careful planning and strategy will help you to fulfill these roles effectively, but the Holy Spirit chooses to work in us most often when we genuinely love the lost around us.
