The Church of Tomorrow Speaks about Cultural Relevance

On March 1, 2012, the Leadership Network hosted groundSWELL, a three-hour online conference for teens. Speakers ranged in age from 13 to 19. In this 2 minute clip, Rachel Choi tells us that her generation needs more from the church than cultural relevance.

As you watch this session, take notes and write down thoughts about how this session can impact your role.

Rachel asks the church to be bold on behalf of her generation. "Take that next step and don't just reach us, but bring us to God and disciple us."

Cultural relevance does matter, but as Rachel points out, the church needs to offer more than just "dinner." What are your teens taking away from your gatherings? What can you do to make sure that the teens who show-up at your dinner parties don't go home empty-handed?

The same creativity that makes us culturally relevant can also transform the way we disciple our teens. Take five minutes to brainstorm about discipleship. Record all your ideas in the space below.

Choose the best idea from the exercise above and decide what the next step needs to be. What is the very next step you need to take to start transforming this idea into a reality? Grab a calendar and commit to complete that next step before the week ends.
