The Spiritual Formation of Your Children

Page 1

In this post for parents, Mike Calhoun, from Word of Life Fellowship, uses a biblical foundation to establish three different stages of a parent's spiritual guidance to coincide with a child's development.

Mike speaks to thousand of students, leaders and youth pastors through a diversified ministry of camps, conferences and evangelistic events. He has a deep burden for evangelism, discipleship, and development of future leadership.

Before you listen to Mike, watch this video about the things that we all want our kids to be.

Don't you hope that your kids enter adulthood with this kind of well rounded childhood? Mike suggests an adaption of all of this parental guidance to meet our kid's various life stages.

Children, like adults, have a free will and cannot be controlled into any exact picture. Parents can, however, use biblical principles to guide children toward a faithful walk with the Lord. The type of guidance changes depending on the child's developmental stage. The verses Mike used are here for your reference.
  1. Boundaries and Instruction - young children (Eph. 6:4)
  2. Freedom with Limits - teens (Pro. 18:13)
  3. Counsel without Control - young adults (Pro. 3:1–4; Isa. 55:11)

Mike prays Ephesians 1:17–19 and 1 Chronicles 29:19 over his children, substituting their names for the pronouns in these verses. Try that this week and see how your prayer life regarding your children changes.
