2012 RightNow Conference

This year's RightNow Conference focused on surrender. When you surrender, you are giving up one thing for something more important. In our faith, that means surrendering to Christ and leading others to do the same.

In this 16 minute session from the 2012 RightNow Conference, Tim Ross, Associate Campus Pastor at Gateway Church in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, talks about what it looks like to operate out of obedience to the burden that God places in us.

As you dream of a better world, what are you afraid of? Being different or uncomfortable? Looking foolish? Rejection? What has God asked you to do with your life? This stirring illustration is an inspiration of how we can surrender to God's plan for our lives.

Are you pursuing your own plans, dreams and desires or are you trusting in God's plans?

As you watch this session, take notes and write down thoughts about how this session can impact the way you live and lead.

Tim Ross referred to the last hours in the earthly life of Jesus Christ (Luke 22:42) when Jesus revealed the one time that he thought of his own wish but surrendered it immediately to God's will. Talk about a time when you struggled with doing God's will over your own?

Tim brought up the idea that the knowledge of good and evil was a step down from the perfect connection between man and God. It wasn't just the evil side, but the understanding both good and evil. What do you think of that statement? What does that mean to you?

Tim talked about Paul's ambition in Acts 9:1–2 as he explained the importance of operating out of obedience to the burden that God has placed in our lives. What are your plans, pursuits, dreams, ambitions and desires in life? What in that list depletes, confuses or frustrates you?

Tim also referred to Paul passing up a "good thing" to do a "God thing" in Acts 16:6–8. What good thing needs to be stamped out in your life so that you can do a God thing? What plan have you asked God "to sign off on" that maybe he has not asked you to do?

Remember, a good thing has one too many "Os" than a God thing! And when you realize that you are not doing a God thing, that "O" will come out in the middle of your good thing. Oh (no)!

What burden has God placed in your life? What does God want to accomplish through you that needs your obedience? What can you change this week to focus on what God wants you to do?
