Outreach as a Lifestyle

Page 1

In this 6 minute session from Leadership Network's 2010 SAGE Conference, Kevin Harney, Lead Pastor at Shoreline Community Church in Monterey, CA, answers the questions, "What things have you done, that if given the chance, you would do differently?"

As you watch this session, take notes and write down thoughts about how this session can impact your role.

In this session Kevin outlines the steps he took on his journey of figuring out how to "do" outreach. He said they started with the "send money, send prayers" approach, then graduated to the committee approach, and then landed on a more organic "outreach is our DNA" approach. He said outreach is "not a project, but a lifestyle."

What approach do you and your church currently take toward outreach? How do you feel about Kevin's suggestion to make outreach part of you and your church's lifestyle? Why?

It's easy to get comfortable focusing on the people that currently attend our congregations. But Jesus commissioned all his followers to share the good news of the gospel with the world. Be courageous as you share the gospel in your community and around the globe!

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." ~ Matt. 28:18–20
