In this 45 minute session from the 2008 Echo conference, Mark Batterson talks about advancing the Kingdom of God by using media and technology. Mark Batterson serves as Lead pastor of National Community Church, one church with seven locations in the Washington, DC area. Mark is the best-selling author of In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day, Wild Goose Chase, Primal, and The Circle Maker.

As you watch this session, take notes and write down thoughts about how this session can impact the way your role in spreading the gospel.

Mark referred to Matthew 10, when Jesus sent 72 out on the inaugural mission as his philosophy of ministry. He focused on Matthew 10:16. Take a moment to re-read that verse.

That is not a safe verse! Mark said that he thinks "church does to people what zoos do to animals." What do you think of that statement? Have you seen that happen? Do you see that at all in your own life?

In that verse, Jesus commissioned the group to be "innocent as doves" which speaks to our motives. Is your heart in the right place? Why are you doing what you're doing?

Mark said that if you do the right thing for the wrong reason, your efforts mean nothing. Do you agree with that statement? Why or why not? Have your motives led you to pride or jealousy?

In that very same verse, Jesus also told the group to be "shrewd as snakes" which Mark said refers to reading the culture and beating the world at their own game. How are you incarnating the gospel in the language the world understands?

Mark also talked about the danger in doing ministry out of memory (the past) instead of ministry out of our imagination (creativity). How are you doing ministry? How can you use your own creativity and the imagination of your team to advance the Kingdom of God?
