Students feel like life is full of rules, boundaries and limitations. Many think that Christianity only adds to the restrictions on how we live. But life in Christ in not supposed to hold us back. The gospel propels us forward in ways we never imagined. This series will help students live a life that demonstrates God’s compassion—as seen on the cross—and His power—as seen in the resurrection.

The Reckless Abandon Youth Bible study series has four thought-provoking sessions where students candidly share their doubts and struggles. Check out an example of one of the real-life stories that will be featured in Reckless Abandon. Brooke talks about how going to church, reading her Bible and praying felt more like a to-do list than a relationship with God.

You are leading students who are at different levels of their faith. Are there some who are treating their relationship with Christ as a to-do list? Are there students in your group who do not have a relationship with Christ? Take a moment to reflect on who specifically you can reach out to as you start this Bible Study?

In each of the four sessions, J.D. Greear uses Scripture to show that being a follower of Christ means immersing ourselves deeply in the gospel because that's when all the things God wants to see in us are produced.

J.D. is an author and Lead Pastor of the Summit Church in Raleigh-Durham. Before you lead the Bible study, listen as he gives us guidance and inspiration on how to teach students to live with the power of God.

J.D. said that "real transformation doesn't happen in the course of the series. It happens life-on-life, learning to apply the gospel in various situations." How are you spending "life-on-life" times with your students that specifically disciples them?

J.D named three things that are important in our Christian lives:
  • Prayer
  • Meditation in the Bible
  • Suffering

When have you known suffering in your life where you have seen that God is better than the pain? How have you seen God as the source of triumph in that suffering? How can you share that honest moment with your students?

Do you know a student who is going through suffering? (either suffering inflicted on them or they are suffering because of their own choices) How can you help them go through this?

At the beginning of each session, your students will experience dramatic or sometimes funny illustrations to ease into the topic. This amusing illustration from Reckless Abandon shows the results of training for a job but never doing the job.

What would happen if we didn't venture out of our "training center" to be who God wants us to be? How are you encouraging the students in your group to bring Christ to a hurting world?

To help you teach, you will use the downloadable Leader's Guide and group handouts available online to dig deep into powerful teaching from the video. Take some time in advance to consider the Bible study questions and come up with personal examples to encourage discussion with your students.

As you prepare to lead this Bible study, are there any ways I can pray for you or help you facilitate?
