Have you ever wondered how someone becomes a great leader? In the Just 3 Questions series, we’ve asked some of today’s top leaders three simple questions about leadership.

Francis Chan is a best-selling author and was the founding pastor of Cornerstone Community Church in Simi Valley, CA. In this first video, he answers, “Who is the best leader you have ever sat under and why were they so good?”

Francis's life was changed by a youth pastor. When you consider mentoring a future leader, do you consider teens who are still in high school? What advantages and what challenges do you see in giving teens a certain level of leadership at church?

In this next clip,  Francis answers the question, “What is the most important thing you do to develop leaders?”

Francis said that opening up his life, really sharing himself with others was the most important thing he can do to develop other leaders. How do you feel about that? Do you think it's important to maintain a private, family life, or should leaders be very transparent? Do you think we should be open with everybody, or only a select few? Why?

In this next video,  Francis answers the questions, “What is the most important thing you do to develop yourself as a leader?” and “What is the most important thing you do to strengthen your Christian faith on a daily basis?”

I love how honest Francis is! While we may get jealous of other people's gifts, Francis reminds us that we each need to find God's unique calling for our lives, and then be obedient to that call. Francis mentioned that he needs to spend time alone with God in order to determine what he's supposed to do. When was the last time you turned your cell phone off, unplugged the computer, and just spent time alone with God?

Francis also said that one thing he does to strengthen his faith is to do things that scare him, things that he has to rely on God's power to see him through. Consider for a moment if there are things that "scare" you that God might be calling you to do? Jot down your thoughts here.

Francis finished with a powerful statement. He said that no one wants to follow someone whose goal is to live a life of comfort and routine. How do you feel about that? How might that statement impact your goals?
