Catch the Vision

2017 RightNow Conference Orlando

Why do we do what we do? In this 36-minute session from the 2017 RightNow Conference in Orlando, Chip Ingram reminds the Church of its mission. When we live in such a way that it explains God and brings His Kingdom, we shine.

Chip serves as Senior Pastor of Venture Christian Church in Los Gatos, California, and CEO & Teaching Pastor of Living on the Edge, an international teaching and discipleship ministry. Chip is the author of fifteen books, including: Culture Shock, Spiritual Simplicity, Good to Great in God's Eyes and Overcoming Emotions that Destroy.

As you watch this session, take notes and write down thoughts about how this session can impact your ministry.

We must begin with a high view of God in order to shine. Each one of us has a distorted view of who God is. Our sin, other people's sin, and our broken world impact our view of God. We must begin to see accurately.

What do you personally perceive God to be right now? What is he like? Is he warm, smiling, and welcoming? Distant, cold, impersonal? Is he like your parents?

2 Corinthians 3:18 (ESV)

18And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

Beholding accurate glimpses of God from the inside out is how life change begins to occur. We are transformed from one degree of glory to the next as we behold God for who He truly is.

More than doing, achieving, or growing, what if knowing God became the number-one priority in your life? What if beholding Him, rather than trying harder, was the means of transformation in your life? What would that look like? What would change about your schedule? How can you return to this place?

To see an accurate picture of God, we need only look at Jesus. Jesus is “the image of the invisible God.” He came to explain God to the world. As a Christ follower, you exist to explain God to the people in your home and community. How you act, your attitudes, priorities, where you spend your time, and your response to circumstances should cause others to say “Oh! This is what God is like!”

Does your life explain God to the world? What does your attitude and schedule explain to those around you?

Jesus came to bring the Kingdom of God to earth. He created little pockets of heaven, where His way ruled. The reason your church exists is to bring the Kingdom of God to your community. You are a representative of the King of Kings, and you implement the values of His Kingdom.

In what ways does your church display the values of the Kingdom? Are you displaying a Kingdom of generosity? Humility? Lack of fear? What Kingdom does your church display?

We are called to shine. This begins with an accurate view of God’s character. Then, we get to explain to our community who God is, as we begin to bring His Kingdom on earth. Through this, God moves in power.
