When Churches and Agencies Work Together

An Ideal Partnership

Churches can either send missionaries themselves or they can choose to partner with an existing missions organization. Forming a partnership involves hard work and dedication for both the agency and the church. In this session from Missio Nexus' On Mission webinar, Ellen Livingood, Founder and Director of Catalyst—an organization that helps mission organizations and local churches to expand and improve their global efforts—uses the illustration of a train to talk about church and mission agency partnerships. She points out all the necessities to forming a strong and lasting relationship.

Ellen modeled the ideal church and agency partnership with a train. The rails represent a firm foundation in an organization's commitment to working with the local church, a church with a clear direction, and missionary field partners headed in the same direction. All parties need a clear vision that's well communicated with ways for people in the church to be involved. Resources, trained leaders, and facilitators play an important role in the success of the relationship.

In what ways is your church involved in global missions? Do you partner with an agency? If so, what do you think is going well and where is there room for improvement?

Partnerships can strengthen the church and benefit missionaries and organizations. When the church works together, God is glorified and the gospel spreads. Spend time this week in prayer for missionaries, churches, and agencies in your life. Thank God for the way He's moving in and through His people.
