27 - Are All People, Just as They Were Lost Through Adam, Saved Through Christ?

Question 27

Christians practice catechesis to instruct believers on the foundational truths of the Christian faith. This video with Tim Keller, Founding Pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church, answers the question, "Are all people, just as they were lost through Adam, saved through Christ?”

Romans 5:17 (ESV)

17For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.

We can respond to question twenty-seven with the following answer: no, only those who are elected by God and united to Christ by faith. Nevertheless God in His mercy demonstrates common grace even to those who are not elect, by restraining the effects of sin and enabling works of culture for human well-being.

Tim said not all people will be saved. Only those who follow Jesus receive salvation and will be raised by Christ on the last day. What stands out to you the most about this answer? Why?

Jesus provides the way to salvation, but only those who trust Him and repent will be saved. God extends His grace to believers and also extends common grace to all humankind through cultural aspects such as art, music, and science.
