3 - Give Thanks

Daily Gratitude

Up until this point in the course, we’ve seen how Christians can practice obedience and abide in Christ by praying and fasting. In this final section, K. Edward Copeland, pastor of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Rockford, Illinois, teaches Christians how to give thanks to God in every situation.

K. Edward referenced Ephesians 5:20 and 1 Thessalonians 5:18 to show where God commands thanksgiving. He said having a right view of the Cross motivates us to thank God.

K. Edward said God doesn’t require us to thank Him for disasters like tornadoes and tsunamis. But we should thank Him for His provision and comfort during times of crisis.

Have you experienced a tragedy in your life? If so, did thanksgiving play a part in how you coped with the situation? How?

Abiding in Christ means we obey Him. We follow Him when we pray, fast, and give thanks. As you end this course, spend focused time thanking God for His presence in your life. Thank Him for prayer, for fasting, and for the ability to abide in Him and obey Him.
