Put a Face to the Issue

The Nines Conference 2014

The church's present struggle with homosexuality is not unique. Throughout its history, the church has had to deal with many hot-button issues that the broader culture embraces in contradiction to Scripture. In this 5-minute session from The Nines Conference 2014, Brady Herbert, Lead Pastor of Harris Creek Baptist Church in Waco, Texas, considers the Apostle Paul's approach to the topic of circumcision as instructive for how Christians can approach the subject of same-sex marriage today.

Which of Brady’s points did you find most impactful? Why?

As Brady said, “You have to put a pretty big spin on Scripture to try to construct a biblical endorsement of homosexuality.” Because of this, our focus should not be so much concerned with where we land on the issue as how we treat those struggling with it. For the most part, the population knows where we land on the issue. So look for ways to enter into the lives of those struggling with same-sex attraction instead of simply explaining the biblical position. Ask God to give you opportunities to both speak and live the truth of Christ for His glory in the lives of those around you.
