How to Guarantee You'll Burn Out

In this training, we’ll explore ways to make sure that you, as the leader, stay spiritually fit. We all want to be part of a great small group, and while many things are outside our control, the success of the group (and of you individually) is often determined by the seemingly small choices we make every day. Take a look at this clip.

“Your future is a million little choices, and it starts today.” What one choice can you make today that will help your relationship with God?

For a professional athlete to perform at a high level they need to maintain a healthy diet and rigorous workout and training program. If not, their performance is hindered and they become less effective. Just like an athlete, we too must maintain a healthy spiritual exercise program if we are going to be effective in the leadership of our small group.

In this 4-minute training, Bill Search, Senior Pastor at Rolling Hills Christian Church in El Dorado Hills, California, gives us some practical advice on how to stay spiritually vibrant as you invest your lives in your group.

Taking time to build up your personal relationship with God is critical to your health and the overall health of your group. Bill said, “You need to invest in pouring back into yourself so you can keep giving to others.”

Bill encouraged us to spend time in prayer and in reading the Bible. That’s so important, since that’s one of the primary ways we grow in our relationship with God and in our spiritual walk. Take a moment and be honest with yourself. Do you have a regular, daily time that you spend with God, praying and reading His Word? Where is the best time in your schedule to plan for this time?

Bill also encouraged us to be active in our local church. Being a small group leader is very important, but so is worshiping God corporately, listening to sermons, and actively serving others at your church. If you are not consistent in your church attendance, make that a priority.

How can you encourage and inspire members of your group to serve at church. Is there a project your small group could do together?

Bill’s last suggestion was to redeem your time. In today’s digital age, we have the ability to download and listen to sermons from reputable churches all over America. Take some time to find a preacher you like and download several sermons so that you can listen to them in the car. Or how about listening to praise and worship music on your next family road trip?

Another way to listen to the Bible while driving is to use a free app on your smartphone called "You Version." They have several reading plans that will help you to read through the Bible in one year. The plans have reminders and alerts to help keep you on track and it even has an audio clip of each reading so you can listen to the Bible while you drive.

Remaining spiritually vibrant requires prayer. Prayer is all about worshiping our Almighty God. What an amazing privilege we have to have a conversation with the Almighty God, to bring our worries and concerns before Him and to know that we have been heard. So take a deep breath ... slow down and take the next few moments to focus your heart and be blessed.
