Missional Community

Leadership Network 2014 Innovations Conference

In this 15-minute session, Matt Carter, Pastor of Preaching and Vision at The Austin Stone Community Church in Austin, TX, talks about how he learned to focus on building intentional small groups as his church attendance grew into the thousands. He emphasizes the importance of teaching small groups to be outwardly focused on serving the community and devoted to discipleship.

In this 3-minute follow up interview from 2014, Matt talks about the long process of integrating missional communities in his growing church.

Which of the Matt’s points in the first talk did you find most impactful? Why? What stood out to you about his follow up video? Why?

Integrating community groups in a church is hard enough. But teaching small groups to be missional takes a whole other level of commitment, dedication, and time. Take time this week to evaluate your church’s small groups. Determine if there are any steps you and your church can take to improve or encourage your small groups.
