More Than Excellence

2014 Doxology and Theology Conference

What do you need to be a better worship leader? In this 29-minute session from the 2014 Doxology and Theology Conference, Matt Carter shares two things God wants for you more than anything else. Matt Carter serves as the Pastor of Preaching & Vision at Austin Stone Community Church in Austin, TX.

Amos 5:23-24 (ESV)

23Take away from me the noise of your songs;

to the melody of your harps I will not listen.

24But let justice roll down like waters,

and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.

Revelation 2:4-5 (ESV)

4But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first.5Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.

Using these passages, Matt shared two things that God wants for you as a worship leader:

  1. Your righteousness [Amos 5:24]
  2. Your heart [Revelation 2:4]

How would you describe righteousness? How does the righteousness you have through Jesus motivate how you live and lead your church in worship?

Lord, help us to remember the first time we met you. Forgive us if we have abandoned that love. Draw us near to you and lead us in paths of righteousness for your name’s sake. Amen.
