Panel Discussion on God Who Abounds in Love and Punishes the Guilty

The Gospel Coalition 2011 National Conference

In this 48-minute session, Tim Keller, Kevin DeYoung, Crawford Loritts, Don Carson, and Stephen Um, wrestle with the realities of God’s love for His people, but also His justice that demands the punishment of the guilty. The conversation surfaces not only the theology behind the questions, but also the way in which they challenge the way we do ministry.

The hellfire and brimstone message doesn’t go over well in our society today. But we neuter the gospel and the character of God when we hack away at God’s justice. We must let God be God, complete with both grace and justice. As you teach the gospel to your people, teach the whole character of God.
