3 - YOUR EXPECTATIONS

BE A LEARNER

This is not a course about doing, as much as it is about sitting with the Lord to grow in faith and Christlikeness. It is a reminder that your personal spiritual life affects the kids you serve. In this session, Josh will talk about how to approach your lessons with humility and open hands that will invite God to lead and guide in your heart and classroom.

Josh said, “God just doesn’t waste anything. What we intend as good spiritual food for the kids actually comes out to be quite healthy for us.” Describe a time when you were impacted by your lesson. How did that affect your teaching and subsequent lesson prep?

9And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,10so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.

LET GOD LEAD

Have you ever been in the middle of a lesson only to feel the redirecting nudge of the Spirit? Have you ever felt off your “game” only to hear how the Lord moved in the hearts of your kids? As Josh talks about the role of the Holy Spirit in your lessons, you will be encouraged to follow His lead.

Isaiah 30:21 (ESV)

21And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.

Josh said, “If your walk with God is in such a way that you’re listening to His voice on a daily basis, and getting into the practice of having heard the Shepherd’s voice as one of His sheep, then I want to ask for you to trust the Lord…be willing to be led in that moment.” How does God lead and guide your daily life? What distractions might keep you from hearing His voice?

2 Corinthians 2:3 (ESV)

3And I wrote as I did, so that when I came I might not suffer pain from those who should have made me rejoice, for I felt sure of all of you, that my joy would be the joy of you all.

In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it might be easy to forget the profound truth that the Spirit of the living God lives and works in you. He is eager to guide your steps and be your strength. Can you hear Him? Do you follow? Josh said, “God is going to be most real to your kids when he actually becomes most real to you.” Reflect on that quote before heading to the next session to consider faithful service.
