1 - YOUR SPIRITUAL LIFE

HIGHER STANDARD

How would you characterize your spiritual life? Is it rooted in joy and dependence in Christ, or are you leading in your own strength and expectations? In this course, you will be encouraged to pursue spiritual maturity and faithfully imitate Christ to the kids you serve. Preparing yourself to lead in the Lord is the first step to leading kids.

As you watch this video of a little girl reciting Psalm 23 from memory, consider the opportunity you have in children’s ministry to instill truth and teach Scripture to the kids you serve, laying the groundwork for them to grow to love and follow Jesus.

As you can see in this young child, kids are very impressionable! They will absorb and imitate your words and actions. In this session, Josh exhorts you as a teacher and spiritual leader to remember that God holds you a higher standard.

IMITATE CHRIST

Josh concluded the last video asking you to consider your walk with Christ. Could you confidently ask someone to follow you, as you follow Christ? Paul did in his first letter to the church in Corinth: “For I am not seeking my own good, but the good of many, so that they may be saved. Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.” (NIV) Keep watching to learn more about what it means to follow and imitate Christ.

You are powerless to imitate Christ on your own. God has given us the Holy Spirit to empower us in His likeness. This is good news! Rather than focusing on your performance, sit in the Word and pray for the Spirit to help you in your weakness. Head over to the next session to consider the power of prayer.
