The Chalmers Center's vision is for local churches to declare and demonstrate to people who are poor that Jesus Christ is making all things new. Jesus was sent to preach the good news of the Kingdom of God (Luke 4:43), the healing of the entire world from the effects of sin. Jesus accomplished His mission both by preaching good news to the poor and meeting their physical needs (Luke 7:18-23).
As His Body, the local church is called to continue Jesus' mission, preaching and demonstrating Christ's hope and power to "the least of these" (Matthew 25:40). We believe that a necessary component of loving the poor is restoring them to being what God created them to be: image-bearers who worship God and who support themselves through their own work (Genesis 1:28-29).
Only Jesus Christ can accomplish such restoration, so all of Chalmers' approaches and tools point poeople who are poor to Jesus Christ as the reconciler of all things (Colossians 1:19-20). But because Chalmers' training also integrates effective poverty alleviation principles, churches are prepared to address the spiritual, financial, and social challenges the poor face, modeling Christ's dominion and healing power in all areas life.
