God's passion for evangelism is so much greater than ours. Yet, the Lord insists on reaching the world through His people. The book of Jonah is the story of the success of God the Evangelist even through His unfaithful people. Throughout this book, we see how the Lord prepares Jonah for the task and how Jonah learns of his own need for the Lord in his affliction. He goes on to learn of God's great compassion, even for the most wicked people. The book of Jonah ends with Jonah receiving one of the most challenging and life transforming presentations of the love and grace of God. The six programs cover the book of Jonah as follows:

  1. Jonah and Nineveh in the Bible
  2. Jonah's Commissioning
  3. On the Run from the Lord
  4. Trusting in Christ in Death
  5. Mission to Nineveh

The Book of Daniel shows us how to hold onto the reality of Christ in a world that we don't control, a world that is full of values and assumptions that are hostile to the ways of the Living God. He shows us how we keep our true identity as citizens of the everlasting Kingdom of Heaven when we are also citizens of earthly kingdoms that come and go. Daniel shows us how to work with integrity and excellence even when surrounded by colleagues who openly reject the Living God. The six programs cover the twelve chapters of Daniel as follows:

Isaiah has been described as the fifth gospel because it is so full of the birth, life, death, resurrection, ascension and return of the Lord Jesus Christ. Constantly quoted by Jesus and His apostles, Isaiah provides so much of the theological foundation for the New Testament. In the temple, Isaiah was confronted with the glory of King Jesus, enthroned over all. These studies will open our minds and hearts as the glory of Jesus shines so brightly. The ten programs cover the book of Isaiah as follows:

Nahum confronts us with the uncomfortable truth that the Living God is both full of goodness and full of anger. We might like a "well-behaved god; who doesn't get 'emotional' about evil and injustice, a god who indulges our sins and cleans up our mess without creating a scene. However, this jealous and avenging God of Nahum is the God whose tolerance of evil and passionate love is the only hope of the world.

Nahum reminds us that the Living God is not a human creation nor is He under human control. The Majestic and Infinite Eternal God of the Bible bursts all our neat categories and assumptions as He shines His glorious light of truth, love, righteousness, and justice into our darkness of deception, death, selfishness, and sin.

The book of Amos is the Old Testament version of the letter to the Laodicean church of Revelation chapter 3. The church in Israel at the time of Amos, just as the church of Laodicea, had become just like the surrounding culture—lukewarm, living in luxury, complacent in 'religion'. The book of Amos warns us at the very beginning that an earthquake was just two years away. The only real security and future was in trusting the LORD God. The six programs cover the book of Amos as follows:

  1. The Lord Roars
  2. "I will punish you for all your sins."

The Book of Genesis is the book of beginnings. It sets the scene for everything in the whole Bible. In this book we learn about the creation of everything, the visible and the invisible. Why study the book of Exodus when we have the New Testament? Exodus is the theological book of the Bible. It is the book of Exodus that provides the theological framework within which the rest of the Bible operates. Genesis sets the scene for the whole Bible, but Exodus maps out the theological logic, the doctrinal details of the Bible. The ten programs cover the 40 chapters of Exodus as follows:

  1. The Lord Hears

The book of Psalms is constructed and arranged in a brilliant way, and the sequence of Psalms covered in these programs is one of the most fascinating in the entire book. From Psalm 20 we are approaching the death of the Messiah, set out so powerfully in Psalm 22. We are taken through the Resurrection in Psalm 23 and the Ascension in Psalm 24. Psalm 25 expresses the sinner's confidence in the ascended Messiah, then from Psalm 26-31 we listen in to the Messiah's great prayers in His suffering. These are precious Psalms because we are listening to the only One who can really teach us to pray. The six programs covers selected chapters of Psalms as follows:

  1. Psalm 20- The LORD Saves His Anointed
  2. Psalm 22 - The Psalm of the Cross
  3. Psalm 23 - The Psalm of Resurrection Hope
  4. Psalm 24 - The Psalm of the Ascension

The very fact that the Living God is not mentioned once in Esther might seem strange, but it is no accident. As we go through our daily lives we do not always see the provident hand of our heavenly Father. By the time we get to the end of the ancient story of Esther we will see that as children of the Living God we are always kept in His Almighty care. The book of Esther teaches us that the Living God is hard at work in all the complexities of our lives even though He rules from the throne-room in the invisible creation! The six programs cover the ten chapters of Esther as follows:

  1. The Abuse of Power
  2. Esther: Married to Power
  3. Haman: Corrupted by Power
  4. Mordecai: Using the Power
  5. Some Justice through Power

If we really are to understand why God allowed the events of the book of Joshua to happen, we need to approach the book in the full context of the whole Bible, understanding this special book in the way it was originally intended. The name “Joshua” is the Hebrew form of the name “Jesus,” meaning “The LORD is salvation.” If this book had simply been called “Jesus,” then the meaning of the book would have been much more obvious to all the readers down the generations. It is a book about a man called Jesus defeating the enemies of the LORD God and bringing the Church into her Promised Land. It is an ancient prophecy about the work of Jesus of Nazareth, born some 1,400 years after Jesus son of Nun lived. The six programs cover the book of Joshua as follows:

  1. Be Strong and Courageous
  2. Crossing the Jordan
  3. The Divine Commander's First Victory

The book of Revelation takes us to the very heart of all history, the heart of the universe itself where we find the LORD Jesus Christ sharing the throne with His Father, surrounded by the Holy Spirit. At the center of reality, behind all the apparent confusion and chaos of this passing age, the Living God rules through Jesus, the Lamb and Lion of God. Jesus and His Bride, the Church, are seated in heaven far above all the powers of this age, as we wait for that day of judgment and new creation.
